Sustainability Policy
At Cherrypickers we recognise that balancing factors such as environmental and social issues with financial priorities is an essential part of good citizenship.
Recognising that everyone has a direct impact on the environment through their daily consumption of non renewable resources, we will endeavour to pursue approaches for protecting the natural systems upon which life depends while at the same time, finding opportunities to help disadvantaged people of the world lift themselves out of poverty.
We will demonstrate our commitment by supporting initiatives designed to address the effect of carbon emissions on our environment.
This means we will make an effort to:
- Reduce the use of materials that produce greenhouse gases.
- Reuse.
- Recycle items that cannot be reused.
- Reduce the amount of paper we consume.
- In addition, we will seek to source power from suppliers who make best endeavours to generate power from renewable resources.
- Reduce the consumption of electricity by switching off electric lights and appliances when not in use, paying particular attention of the effect of the ‘standby’ option on TVs etc.
- Reducing the consumption of water, electricity and detergent pollutants by, for example electing an option to continue to use towels, rather than have them replaced with clean ones.
- Sorting waste to facilitate recycling - eg. Leaving newspapers aside and not putting them in with the rubbish.
- Reusing material and containers - eg. Bottles and jars.
- Reducing the consumption of renewable resources through sourcing our produce unpackaged.
Additionally we agree to seek opportunities to support the efforts of the underprivileged people, to lift them out of poverty. This means whenever we are unable to source locally will support Fairtrade to source directly from third world producers.
